Almost a year ago, I stumbled on ths little company's website out of Austin, Texas, and I was so skeptical of everything they were offering that I picked up the phone and called them. Immediatly I was caught off guard as I expected to get some secretary or an answering service, but to my surprise, the person answering was none other than Alexia Erlichman, one of the co-founders.
After a lengthy conversation, and alot of questions, I was able to determine that they were indeed the real deal.
They had all the right contacts and knew all the right people to put this thing together as they advertise. Before the conversation was over, keeping in mind that I am a record label exec with some years of experience in A&R myself, I decided to lend my expertise to help them find and recruit artists because I truly believed that what they were doing for independent artists was something to be heralded.
And so the PlayItForTheLabels.com website was born.
Our job here is simple, to find, screen and recruit artists who are ready for that next step, and let them know all the great things this company can do for artists just like you. And if you are truly serious about your music career, then this is exactly the place you want to build your stage, so to speak, because everyone who's anyone in the music industry is here looking to sign and TRULY LISTENING to you the musicians, songwriters and solo artists.
So let me begin telling you a little bit about what they are up to....
Currently, they are working with MTV to find artists for their catalogue. All Members of their service will be considered for this opportunity.
Their last Live Label showcases took place in Austin, TX during the week of March 12th to 15th where They showcased 30 bands and artists during SXSW over the 3 day festival. Each performer received written feedback from an A&R rep from Capitol Music Group.
Previous Live Label Showcases have taken place in NYC at Fat Baby, Pianos, Crash Mansion and others. A&R reps that attend their showcases include reps from J Records, Octone, Epic, Hollywood and others. They have also brought in Jimmy Landry A&R/Producer/Consultant for Virgin Records to provide the performing artists with personalized feedback on their performance, songs and more at more than one of our showcases. To Date, they have held over 100 Live Label Showcases in just the last 3 years for their artists and you can be in their next one because as a member you are immediately eligible to come play your music at any one of their showcases For FREE!! There are no waiting periods and no entry fees.
The company also provides artists with many other opportunities too, such as film, television and video game submissions. Some of their recent submissions include CSI, Shark, Desperate Housewives, Scary Movie 4 and more.
They also give members the opportunity to submit their songs to established artists in the studio, some of the artists that have considered their members material include: Taylor Dayne, Savvy and Katie Salt. All of these opportunities as well as our live label showcases come at no additional costs to members. In other words, you will never again have to pay for any submission fees.
Some of their success stories include: Bridgett Huffhines who has received a songwriting deal from a record label. She received this deal because the label heard her on our associates site. Milhouse has received a worldwide distribution deal through an independent label. Many other members have received placement of their songs in Feature Films and still others have received publishing deals and distribution deals through their affiliation with some of our associates. One of their members, Donna Mea, was recently chosen to play their music on an episode of the hit NBC television show "Friday Night Lights".
Now I've already said that their members can submit their original material to as many Feature Films and TV shows and video games as they want all at no additional charge, but I failed to mention that several of their artists have been chosen for physical distribution deals in retail outlets like Target and many others have been chosen for digital distribution deals at Starbucks/Hear Music.
